A while back, my mom said she and dad would like it if I came out and visited for a week or more this summer. They offered to pay for part of a ticket, so I made plans. I'm going to take the train, like I did in 2010. Aug 8-22, I made sure to be there for the Sun Prairie corn fest, which is on the 18th. It'll be nice to hang out in Madison, see people for more than a fannish minute. I'll also spend time with my brother, who'll be moving to Green Bay at the end of summer.

It's been about two weeks since I had my tooth pulled. The pain and swelling are mostly gone. I talk a little different, and I smile different. I think it looks pretty harsh. More than one person has said that it's not that apparent unless you really look. I've never had a very "toothy" smile, but now I'm very aware of how I'm talking. People definitely judge a person whose missing a front tooth. You're poor, a hillbilly, someone who doesn't care about their appearance.
Today, I tried out the temporary flipper, for the first time since the surgery. Damn thing cost three hundred bucks, but I don't think I'll wear it at all. It looks pretty good, but it's not remotely possible to speak properly or coherently with it in. I sound like Sylvester the cat. If everything goes well, I'll get the permanent fake tooth before my trip to Madison in August.

I overthink things. Tiny details consume me, until I think my idea or plan is the stupidest thing in the world. Like the car.
I've continued to collect aquarium stones and fridge magnets. I bought one batch of 200 peel-and-stick magnets from Oriental Trading, and used them up almost instantly on the aquarium stones. When I went to order more, they were out. So I did something bold- for me. I looked on Ebay and found a seller who had similar magnets. Then I had to create a Paypal account to pay for them. These are the kinds of things that are second nature for everyone else in the world, but scary as heck for me. But I did it, and a couple days later, 750 peel-and-stick magnets appeared on my doorstep. Which I used up in short order. Another batch of 750 will arrive any day. So far, I've made 950 aquaruim stones into magnets. Not enough to cover the car by any means, but enough to do some cool stuff with. But my overthinking conundrum is that I've continued to collect fridge magnets, and I want to use them on the car too. Since last year, I think I've collected enough to cover the car with way less open space. It's not a large car- I have to decide, one or the other! It also matters whether or not I get the same parking spot at the fair. Last year, I was on the end of a row, the whole side of the car was accessible for people to play with the word and letter magnets. I really want that again. There needs to be a support group for overthinkers...

And now for something completely different, pictures of squishy animals..
