Update....
Jun. 8th, 2003 02:58 amPast noon, I roll out of bed, pick up my phone, and hit the redial button without even thinking. I've all but given up on
squirrelswing, but to my stunned surprise- he answers! The good news: he still likes me very much. The bad news: he didn't call because he'd been terribly sick, and had just gotten out of the hospital after being there an entire week! Diagnosis: diabetes. He's much better now, and I'm REALLY glad. We spent the rest of the afternoon on the phone catching up.
Later in the evening, I met my friend Bonnie and we went to the PanAfrica dance party. There are two DJ's who alternate Saturdays on WORT radio. They play African and Middle-Eastern music, and it's wonderful. They used to have dance parties at a club called the Casbah, but they stopped having them last summer. They played the greatest dance music EVER, and I really missed those parties. Finally, they found a new venue, announced it on the radio, and posted flyers all over downtown. A huge crowd showed up, and it was fabulous!! College kids, and oldies like me, black, white, Middle-Eastern faces. Well-dressed African men who can REALLY dance! The music was awesome, and the floor was packed! We moved and grooved till we almost dropped. My knees are aching still, and my back will be sore tomorrow, but it's SO worth it! Juliebata is satisfied and relieved....
On that note, I have one final question from
rdkeir:
"describe a part of Juliebata that is wonderful."
I CAN DANCE, DAMMITT!!
