One thing I've done this weekend is work on my resume. A particularly bad day at work on Friday made me decide to give it a whirl. My last resume is lovely, but it was done on a Mac with a lot of help from friends. I didn't have any version of it on my computer (a non-Mac). So I set to work, opened up Word 97, and started typing away. I added the two jobs I've had since my last update, and re-copied everything else. It was a very frustrating endeavor. I've said it before, I do not have the basic computer knowledge that most of you take for granted. Word 97 was on my computer when I got it, but I've had no instruction whatsoever on how to use it. It does things I don't understand, and won't let me do things that I want and I have no idea why.
Remember that TV show, where the guy finds a superhero costume, but he loses the instruction book? He puts the costume on anyway, and tries to fight crime, having no understanding of how to harness it's powers. He flies erratically, and crashes into walls a lot. That's kind of how I feel, I have this powerful tool, and I don't know how to use it. But I try anyway, what else can I do, and I crash into a lot of walls. It takes me FOREVER to do the simplest of things! The zines I did for Turboapa were a labor of love and frustration. The writing was easy, getting the page to look nice could take weeks! Arg!
So anyway, my job sucks, and I need a new one.

I'm not too fond of Word, and I never had formal training for using it. That's why I leave on the "tip-a-day" option and I also use Clippy and the Help menu. Sometimes I just get lost reading the Help stuff. But don't listen to me. It's possible that I ma y be the only living being who looks things up in a manual or in Help. I KNOW I'm the only person who likes Clippy.

Well, this is intended as reassurance, and I hope it doesn't fill you with dread, but even very experienced Word users have that problem. It's not your fault at all.

Ugh! resumes

Given a choice between dealing with my brother and job hunting, well, I'd almost rather be poked in the eye with a sharp stick than either one. Revising resumes is a little better, but not much.

I agree with what [livejournal.com profile] holyoutlaw said about Word.

I'm not going to be over by you real soon, but if you like I could maybe help by email (sending a file back & forth). Especially if Word's being stubborn about something. Or over the phone, if you send me the file & we both have it open at the same time. Kinda geeky, but it's almost free.
