I could have been unpacking books, but spent the day HERE instead!
It was especially fun to pick an interest, pick random people off the list and look at their interests, thereby reminding me of things I like that I didn't think of in the first place!
Next, I'll look at my friends journals, and catch up on what's going on with them. (Might even make some comments!) Then, I'll start to regale folks with tales of my lonely life, my wonderful cat, my boring job, my normal family, etc...

Interests

Looking at who has what interests with you the other night made me go off and do some of that yesterday. I think it's weird that with all these fans online that no one besides me has listed Gwyneth Jones. I think I might send email to the one other person who listed Jane Gardam (a mainstream adult & kids author from England, who's won prizes and everything). I added WisCon and feminism to my list because of you! (How could I have left out the feminism?!)

You've been reading my journal, haven't you? ;-)

I have a hard enough time keeping caught up with my Friends page reading, but, occasionally, I do the branching-out you're doing. (It was the Liavek reference that shocked me, finding that only one other person had put that down as an interest.)

Actually, I have far more interests than what I've put down, but I want to keep my list down to things that aren't just dilletante-ism. I have to be invested, in some form or fashion, in order to include the interest.

Or you can run around "friending" the friends who comment other people's journals, heh heh heh.

On a friendlier note, your user info page makes me think you and I were once in an apa together -- so I'm friending you, and I also added the apa in question to my list of interests, mostly as a way of signalling to others. This LJ place is kinda weird; I never guessed a lot of my old friends from before I left town would be here.

Anyhoo... good to see you!

Crazy(do you still remember the bit I wrote about a retreat to West Vlieland, in the Netherlands?)Soph

PS relate to the comment about dilletante-ism, but still can't resist adding a few more, again as helps for those dropping by...

re APAs

What you may not realize is that all four of us in this thread were in that APA, though you & [livejournal.com profile] stealthpup didn't overlap (I think).

You (w/ and w/o) & DH even stayed w/me & my ex around WisCon, once -- now there's another interest listed by only a handful of people. You guys ever coming back for that?

Yes, I'm still in That Apa, but I don't seem to recall your nick. If you threw your full name at me (in e-mail, if you like), I might recognize it. I got into That Apa around issue #95, if that's any help in determining the overlap.

(And why am I being coy about TurboAPA?)

I've e-mailed you... hmmm, I am worried I won't be able to get you to remember me, now! ;) But you were in the apa oh, something like 91? 92? I'm trying to remember the year: but I had gone in February of (which year?) to the Wadden Islands, West Vlieland, to be exact, in the Netherlands. It was a short trip, a gafia with boots on, which did me a world of good. (Jeanne said it was good I was taking care of myself, when I got a hotel to fire up their sauna, and we may have traded a few comments about the benefits of massage on getting the mind to stop winding...)

Liavek!

Now there's a series I haven't encountered much lately. Loved all the stuff all those writers were doing back then. I even have the books somewhere -- maybe I could sell them for lots o' bucks (5? 10?) on eBay if times get really desperate.

There's a reason: the shared world pretty much disintegrated, from what I'd heard. Given that the last volume was published paperback over 8 years ago....

Still, it was wonderful while it lasted, and it involved many authors that I simply adore, including Stephen Brust and Emma Bull. The magic concept was unique, as far as I could tell, and appropriately fraught with peril. And the protagonists! Quite an eclectic set, and far different from one's standard collection of hero-professions.

As for eBay, I have to get off my lazy ass and start scanning some of my Magic: The Gathering cards. For me, times are that desperate, and it's time for me to get even more clutter out of my life (and if I can get cash for it, so much the better).

Anyone want to give me money for a defunct Babylon 5 CCG card with Londo Molari's autograph?

Sounds like it'd make somebody a great Xmas gift -- I'd get it out there this week. Maybe even with a "buy it now" price? She said, with a box of books she's been meaning to sell...)

Given the current rain, we can't work on the back house. One would think it would give me the incentive to do that scanning. Instead, I spend my time reading journals and playing Final Fantasy X. Ugh; I know how to procrastinate far too well.
