Friday, 6/1. Luke and I take the El downtown, we were planning on seeing an exhibit at a place called the Cultural Center, but it was closed for a private event. We found out later, president Obama was doing a fundraiser there that afternoon. We were just a couple blocks from the Art Institute of Chicago, so we did that instead. Highlights were the Lichtenstein exhibit, handmade textiles from the 17 & 1800s, and the room full of miniature rooms.
Saturday, 6/2. Running around Oak Park. We've had a great time in Chicago, and Luke's family are wonderful hosts, but I've reached the point in the trip where I've had enough, and I'm ready to be home. I'm starting to stress about the airplane ride, and my stomach is a little unsettled.
Sunday, 6/3. Our flight doesn't leave till 5:15pm, so we have time for brunch with the whole family. Then it's off to the airport, for security theater! It's a bad flight, very bumpy, and the guy sitting at the window seat next to us is sniffling and sneezing constantly. Great. Luke and I treat ourselves to the snack box and a cheese tray, and eventually, we make it to Seattle. The greatest moments in my life are the moments where the airplane I'm on touches the ground. My hours of terror finally end as the plane slams into reverse and roars to a halt. I love that feeling.
lara7 once again gives us a ride, and we arrive home sometime after 8pm. We have just enough time to order a pizza and eat it before Mad Men starts.
Monday, 6/4. We're home, yay! It's cool and rainy, typical Junuary weather here in Seattle. I go to the storage locker to pick up my computer, and a few other things I stashed away while we were gone. I also picked up our mail held at the post office. Luke tried to finish all the schoolwork he avoided doing while we were in the midwest! Our box of stuff shipped from Wiscon arrived that afternoon. Dress shoes, books, and all the party posters and stickers. I wash clothes, put away suitcases, and organize papers.
Many thanks are in order. To Lara & Paul, for airport shuttling. To John and Mary Ellen, for bankrolling the LJ party this year. To Simba, for helping out at the photo booth. To Nora & Tony, for shuttling and feeding and housing us in comfort.
Today, Saturday, 6/9. So, we're back to our normal routines. Neither one of us got sick from our sniffling seatmate. Luke had his final two classes for the quarter. Now I'm focused on the Fremont Fair and SACBO, which is next weekend. I finished making magnets out of aquarium stones.
( All this will go on my car )
