My Automotive Artistic Folly
Apr. 13th, 2012 10:37 pmFirst off, thanks to all who responded to my dental post. We're pretty sure we're going to go for the implant, it's just a matter of how soon. The bad tooth might be out of my head before Wiscon, and that would be a relief.
I'm going to talk about my car now. I love my car. I call her CarBata. She's a 1998 Honda Civic, dark green, 2-door automatic. Whump and I bought her new back in California. He did all the research and financial stuff, all I cared about was that it was an automatic (I don't drive stick), had air conditioning, power windows, a tapedeck, and above all- WAS NOT RED! I would have preferred a four-door, but ended up with two. Whump insisted on a sunroof. In 14 years, I've never opened it. Not once. When we split, I took the car with me to Madison. Whump had purchased a 2000 Civic for himself not long before. Identical to mine but for two things: it had a CD player instead of a tapedeck, and of course, it was red!
My car now has 75,800 miles, and has been my constant companion for 14 years. We've had lots of adventures. She's had a minimum of mechanical issues, and she's never left me stranded (knock wood, cross fingers). I'm not impressed by expensive cars, fast or powerful cars, I'm impressed by cars that sit out in sub-zero cold, night after night, and start without fuss. Cars that last for years with only the most basic maintenence. I will drive this car till she disintegrates.
My car came with a spoiler because she's described as a "sport coupe". However, she isn't the least bit sporty or cool. She's neither fast, nor particularly powerful. She is however, just right for my needs, spoiler or no. Simple, reliable, and gets decent milage.
When Luke got rid of his truck, we decided to make my car into the family art car, albeit a temporary one. I collected 12 pounds of fridge magnets, and put them everywhere they'd stick. It was interactive and awesome, but I wished for more magnets.
( Is it just me, or do cut tags look different now..? )
