Petting Cats And Smelling Flowers
May. 4th, 2011 07:21 pmI've been going out for walks every day, only missing three days since 4/17. The longest walk was 9 miles, the shortest was 3.4 miles. Today Luke came with me, and we did 7.3. Usually, I go for around 4, and I try to head in a different direction each time. There needs to be an uphill component, or I don't feel like I've accomplished anything. I never go south, because it's flat and industrial, but every other direction has a lot to offer. Beautiful homes and yards, chirping birds, flowers to smell, friendly dogs and cats, parks to rest in, views of the sound and mountains.
I haven't lost any weight, because my eating habits are the same, but holy crap- I can walk 9 miles- with steep hills- and not die! This is a good thing. I wanted to snap out of my funk, and do something healthy. You always hear about how walking is so good for you, but no-one has time for it. Well, I do have the time. I have moments when I feel guilty, I should be using these endless days to look for work. But there isn't any work to look for. So I walk.
Updates from stuff I posted about recently:
rdkeir, please contact me when you get a chance regarding Wiscon stuff.
One of my pairs of new glasses were ready yesterday, so I picked them up. I'm now the proud owner of prescription sunglasses. The first pair of actual sunglasses I've ever had. I drove home with them, and they were weird, but I'll get used to them.
Hair: In a very un-cute stage right now. I think when I last got it cut in November, she must have taken almost nothing off the front, and shaved me to the skin in back. From the back, I still look like I have short hair, it's nowhere near shoulder length. But the front hangs down well past my nose. I'm all over the headbands now, luckily, I've found some nice ones that don't pinch behind the ears and give you a headache. Still searching fruitlessly for barrettes.
Signs my computer may be nearing the end of it's lifespan: the occasional blue screen of doom. I restart, and everything seems fine.
The mouse does something incredibly annoying. More often than not, for every click I make, it registers as two clicks. I'm constantly scrolling past things and having to back up to see what I missed. Or alternately, I have to click two or three times for just one click to register. This is driving me crazy! The mouse itself is fairly new, I just put new batteries into it, but that hasn't helped. Please, can somebody explain this?!
The Royal Wedding: I watched. Before I started walking every day, I'd stay up till 6 or 7 in the morning, and sleep till 4 in the afternoon. After I got to walking, I'm going to bed around 2-3, and get up noonish. This is a huge improvement. That said, I wasn't going to miss the big wedding, even though the ceremony started at 3am! I follow the antics of the royals probably a little more than the average American. I think everyone looked magnificent. Kate's dress was simply stunning, beyond beautiful, just perfect for her figure, and for the occasion. I sincerely hope that this brings back wedding dresses with sleeves. I loved all the hats, some were quite lovely, some were truly awful. Princess Beatrice's hat has taken over the internet! Maybe I should find a wacky hat for fancy dress at Wiscon!
In other news, I'm developing a fabulous farmer tan!
