Ensconced In Ballard
Sep. 20th, 2008 01:44 pmMy plan of hauling ass and moving everything but the heavy furniture ourselves worked out really well. The movers were like, "wow, you've done all the prep work!"
A big truck and three strapping lads arrived right at 9:00 Friday morning. I was worried about how they were going to get a few of our things into the new apartment. There are some really sharp turns and tight corners. But they had no problem getting anything in here at all. The whole thing was done by noon.
We went back to the old place a couple more times for incidentals, then unpacked while we waited for Comcast. I had a scare earlier in the week, I called to get internet set up at our new place, and was told that Comcast doesn't serve our new location! WTF! I told the guy our new address three times, and he said "nope, sorry." I couldn't believe it! When Luke got home I had him call them, and they said "of course we serve that location."
With the savings in rent, we decided to splurge and get cable TV. The cable guy got everything set up, and showed us how to use the special remote. I hate that our only option was digital cable. The channels scroll very slowly (I'm a super-speedy channel surfer) and I can't figure out how to get it to bypass channels I don't want, like sports, shopping, religion and Fox news.
Our wireless router didn't work here, so we went out and bought a new one. Which didn't work because we bought the wrong type. So we took it right back and bought a different one. Poor Luke then spent an hour on the phone to India getting it all set up. We Has Security Enabled Internets!!! I mostly ignored it and watched House Hunters till midnight.
More light comes into our new bedroom, but far less sound. We won't miss the sounds of the young'uns carousing throughout Fremont every night. We slept well. Our new shower is MUCH more powerful, almost painful compared to the one in Fremont. I think I'll call it "Stingee".
