Two doors down, there is a house that's been sitting abandoned for several months. It's been broken into several times. Just in the last week, someone, we don't know who, has finally taken charge of it, and work is being done. A trailer-sized dumpster was parked out front, and has been filled up at least twice with wood, carpet, and plaster scraps. Hopefully, it'll be fixed up nice and sold.
This afternoon, Luke was just getting into his truck to head to class, when he saw something sitting out in front of the house two doors down. A large neon sign about ten feet long with white letters that say "SATURDAYS". Knowing that if he brought this to my attention, I would have said "that's nice dear" he instead went to Jane, who helped him haul it into the basement. It was only *then* that he noticed the sticky note on the sign that said "it works, free for the taking". Now that it was safely inside taking up space in the basement (where, I might add, one already needs a pith helmet and machete to hack a path to the goddamn washing machine), he came upstairs and told me what the commotion I heard was about. Jane located a heavy-duty extension cord, and plugged it in.
It is not the brightest white ten foot long neon sign that says "SATURDAYS" in the whole world, but it's Luke's now. Knowing just how much he loves to take pictures of neon, I'm sure he'll post photos of it soon...
