The Current Strategy For Comfort...
Jun. 12th, 2005 04:15 pmIt may be too cold at the office, but it's damn hot everywhere else. We're having August weather in June, and it sucks royally. I am *not* a hot weather person! My apartment is blessed with an air conditioner, and I've been using it. A third floor loft heats up darn quick these days. If it weren't for the AC, I simply couldn't sleep here. Before I finally caved in and turned it on, I wasn't sleeping at all. The only really annoying thing is that this apartment is so small, when the AC is running, I cannot hear the TV or have music on (The dishwasher is almost as loud, but that only runs for about 45 minutes).
I've been turning it on in the evenings, letting it run all night so I can sleep, then turning it off during the day and leaving the shades drawn. The downstairs stays comfortable till I get home, I'm not about to let the cat suffer while I'm away! This weekend, I never left the apartment. I turned it off around 7am Saturday morning, and was OK until dinnertime. It actually sucked in here by 2 in the afternoon, but I wanted to have some music on. The thing about living alone with the shades drawn, I can run around without any clothes on if I feel like it! Ha! And that helped a lot. It only becomes a problem when the cat decides to jump up on my lap- *OW!*
This morning I turned it off around 9am, and it still feels fine in here, though I can tell it's warming up. I am currently wearing clothes, however, as I must make an excursion to the laundry room downstairs!
I'm hoping the hot streak ends pretty soon, it definately adds to the electric bill. Normally, you don't need the AC till sometime in July.
My bills for July and August usually run 10 or 20 dollars more than average. It seems that it's cheaper to heat a loft apartment in winter than cool it in summer. Good thing summers are short around here.
It seems like every day, thunderstorms pop up and rain on everybody else. We had a small one on Thursday, I think, but all the other ones go right past the city. Dang it!
This concludes the weekend heating/cooling report. Bleh...
