Another week down...
Mar. 5th, 2004 06:52 pmThere is truly no greater sound in the world than the sound of the office door closing behind you as you leave on a Friday afternoon. The blissful sound of freedom...
Events of the week:
On Monday, I very nearly took a header down the stairs at work. My feet went out from under me, but I caught myself. I did manage to pull something in my shoulder, but it doesn't hurt that much anymore. I'm up and down the stairs so often, I knew I'd take a spill eventually. 18 steps, an average of 25 times a day. Five days a week. People ask me how I stay thin, and I tell them that's how! Take the stairs, and take 'em at a jog!
While I'm thinner than many folks I know, I have the potential to be larger, and if I'm going to fit in that jaw-dropping red dress at Wiscon, I must stay exactly the size I am now.
On Tuesday,
rdkeir came over and looked at my computer. Yep, it's a computer all right, and a mighty old one at that! He uninstalled the virus stuff that was on there, and installed something else much newer. Now things seem to boot up a little quicker, but I'm getting a bit more spam. I still get far less than most people, so I'm not going to worry about it. The subject lines are pretty entertaining sometimes, two I remember are:
"Audience besotted herringbone buzzard"
"Muscat fungoid batch scrumptious"
They'll try anything to get you to open them.
We went out for a bite to eat, then looked at some old photos of mine while we waited for something to install itself on my computer. Most of my photos are in albums, in order, going back to 1985. I've known
rdkeir for a very long time, but our fannish circles of who we know best and hang out with have always been a bit different. Whenever they intersect at parties and cons, however, it's always a good thing! He and Lucy have been especially kind to me in the last year, and I really appreciate that.
So, that brings us to Wednesday. The German Art Students, my favorite local band, would be doing a show, and they'd e-mailed me a free ticket. I thought about not going, in fact at 9pm I was asleep on the couch. But I woke up, decided to get off my butt and I went to the club. It is SO hard to go to a club by myself, but I really like this band, and they're a hell of a lot of fun. They always remember me, and thank me for coming out and supporting them. For the price of a soda, I got some good, loud music in my system and I had a fine time.
Thursday, my bosslady returned from a week's vacation. It was like a ton of bricks settled back on my shoulders. I had high hopes for Thursday night, I really did. I have so much stuff I want to write about. My insomnia. A friend who came to visit a few weeks ago, and I hadn't seen her in 15 years. It had a big impact. I always want to write about music, but I think I'm going to sound like a dork. I'm way behind on letters and e-mails, and I wanted to work on all that Thursday. But the couch had other ideas for me, and I stayed there, zoned out on West Wing reruns till 4am. The alarm goes off at 6:15...
So here it is, Friday night already. I've been writing this for hours it seems, but oddly enough, I feel pretty good. I can sleep all goddamned day Saturday if I want to. I made a list of projects that need doing, and I'm thinking I might get a few of them crossed off over the weekend.
So the question I see going around is: who first got you onto LiveJournal?
In September, 2002, I was over at
replyhazy's, and she showed it to me. I thought it was cool, but didn't think I was cool enough for it. Later, in November, after hearing more and more people talk about it, I wanted in, cool or not!
bibliofile was in town one weekend, and she was the one who set me up with her code, showed me the basics, and introduced me to folks.
replyhazy made the first comment. I'm cool now dammitt!
Here's my question: What's everyone paying for a gallon of gas in their city? I paid $1.81 last week.
The latest news:
They just found Martha Stewart guilty! *HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!*
