I was so sure this was going to be one for [livejournal.com profile] failed_recipe, but once again, I cooked and no-one died.
I bought some chicken and a few vegetables without a specific plan. I was in the mood to cook, so I just put everything onto the counter and started. I cut the chicken into little pieces. Raw meat= ick. Mix in a little salt and pepper, and a good deal of garam masala powder. Set aside. Start chopping stuff. I have onions, mushrooms, broccoli, garlic, a red pepper, zuccini, and one of those things that's like a zuccini but it's yellow. I hate chopping stuff, I have a good knife, but I'm very slow. I can't do it like they do on the cooking shows. I also have this pathological fear of cutting my hands. Long story...
Anyway, in the rice cooker, I use more water than the instructions call for. My rice always seems to turn out dry, so maybe this'll help. I add some saffron, and more garam masala powder. Mmmm...
I saute the chicken first, and set aside. Then everything else gets done, and it's time to start thinking about sauce. Check the fridge, the pantry and the counter-top. I have a bottle of oyster sauce, soy sauce, worcestershire sauce, and a bottle of sherry. I needed about 1/2 cup of sherry for a recipie I tried recently, and all I could get was this big-ass bottle. Oh well, it wasn't that expensive...
Lining up the bottles on the counter, I think- "do any of these liquids go together?" "Am I stupid?" "Am I about to make the worst food ever?" 'Eh, what the hell- I started pouring with wild abandon! A little of this, a little more of that, and a few minutes later, the rice was done and it was time to try my handiwork. It smelled great! And the taste? *FABULOUS!!!*
I could not believe it! Why does this keep happening? For someone so completely clueless about cooking to make food so yummy, I just don't know what the deal is. Perhaps the Saucepan of Dorian Grey sits in my closet...

Soooo, how 'bout that cold weather?
Know what impresses me? Cars that sit outside all night in -20 wind chill, then start when you need them to. They impress the hell outta me.
The Tenney park lagoon will be frozen soon. I'm sure that it's frozen already, but the city hasn't cleared it for skating yet. Soon, though. Can't wait to go skating!
