Hello, is this thing on....?

I am Julie Humphries. Some folks here know me. I've been hearing about livejournal from a number of people. I'm going to try it, and hope that I don't come across as a total dork. I love to write, but at the moment my only creative outlet is through e-mail. I don't yet know enough about how things work here to tell where the people I actually know are, and what they call themselves. (Did that make any sense?) My computer is slow and primitive, and I don't understand the basic things most of you take for granted. But throwing myself into something like this is one way to try to figure it out.
I just moved to a new apartment, and Ms. bibliofile came over tonight to visit and help me unpack. (she rocks, by the way...)
She mentioned livejournal, and I said, "show it to me, can I get on there?" A few hours later, here I am. I need to look around some.
