I love my family, the "Grandma" issue aside, we get along very well. I consider myself lucky, knowing the family troubles that some of my friends have to put up with. I try very hard not to complain when my Dad seems hell-bent on driving me crazy. My mom calls me this afternoon, to invite me over for Sunday dinner. Mom food. Mom food is always good! I can bring over my tax stuff, so Dad can get a look at it. This will mean a lecture and criticism about my financial decisions. On the other hand, Dad's willing to do my taxes- I sure as hell can't do them myself, I don't understand any of that crap, so I hold my tongue and suck it up. The things I do for Mom food...

the points system

My sister R and I agree on one thing: mom drives us crazy. So when we go spend time with her, we award each other Mom points. Here is a sample conversation:

"I saw Mom today and heard the story again about the butcher block in the kitchen being in the wrong place!"
"Wow. That's pretty good. Mom points for you."
"But wait, she also told me the one again about the stove being the wrong stove!"
"Double Mom points!"

We love Mom. But we've heard her complaints about how my Dad ignores all of her desires over and over. They are valid complaints. He bought her a new car recently--deliberately ignored what she wanted and picked out a different car. His word is Law. So she gets to complain. We get to suffer through the same Complaint Tapes every time we see her.

As H would say, "At least your mom is alive so you can listen to her complain."
