I'd Like To Be, Under The Sea...
Jul. 6th, 2011 10:25 pmLuke and I went on a great road trip over the 4th of July weekend. This is the third year in a row now, we've gone somewhere for the summer's lowest tides. This time it was a place called Slip Point, in the town of Clallam Bay, way up on the Olympic peninsula.
We left Friday morning and had excellent ferry karma. We drove up, paid, and the first rows of cars were already boarding. Made a quick pit stop in Port Angeles, and drove on to Salt Creek County Park, the site our tidepool trip last year. I love this place! The tide was still part-way out, so after a picnic lunch, we went out on the rocks for a while. When we'd had enough we pressed on along Highway 112, the Strait of Juan de Fuca National Scenic Byway. It's a really pretty drive. We arrived in the town of Clallam Bay around 2:00 and checked into our cute little motel. It was simple and maybe a little run-down, but it was clean and the bed was comfy. The manager was incredibly pleasant and friendly, and gave us directions down to the local beach.
