Technical Adventure Of The Day
Nov. 18th, 2009 05:13 pmWoke up to find my mouse and keyboard not working. I have a laptop with a regular mouse and a very old full-size keyboard plugged into it. Instead of going to the gym as planned, I went to our nearby Office Max to get a new adapter thingy. Brought it home, plugged it in- didn't work. Damn.
Ran right back to Office Max, and asked to speak to a knowledgeable dude. I describe the situation to knowledgeable dude, and he asks why I'm using such a tragically ancient set-up. I have no answer for him, other than "it's what I've always had.." He says the port could be bad, in which case, I'd need to take it to the laptop repair shop. If it isn't the port, a new wireless keyboard and mouse should bring me into the 21st century.
So I head home into yet another howling wind and rainstorm. I really don't want to go out again. I get home just in time for Luke to leave to go to a movie with
fringefaan. I'm alone and clueless about installing anything on my computer, but I put the wireless adapter into the port, put the new keyboard and mouse on the desk, and boom- they work, just like that! I didn't have to do or install anything. Relief!
Nice shiny new keyboard, all bouncy and crumb-free! Yay!
