I have a temp job for a few weeks, in, of all places, Fremont. The neighborhood we just moved from. On Wednesday, it was chilly in the morning so I wore my favorite sweater. It's black, lightweight, simple, and goes with anything so it's perfect for any office. When I left for home Wednesday, it was warmer, so I draped the sweater over my arm on the way to the bus stop. I have to walk past our old place on 34th, cross the Fremont bridge, and catch the #17 bus to Ballard. Several blocks. Somewhere along there, the sweater slipped off my arm. I didn't notice it was gone till the bus was halfway home. I was heartbroken. My mom sent me that sweater from Madison after I'd admired one she had that was just like it. I think it came from Penney's or Sears. You just can't find a sweater like that anymore. I was so pissed. I moped all Wednesday night, I'd have to start searching the thrift stores for a new "perfect" sweater.

Thursday, I went to work, still moping. I thought maybe, just maybe, it might still be around on the ground somewhere, but I didn't see it on my way to work. I headed for home, convinced I'd never see my beloved sweater again.

But this is a story about miracles!

As I approached the bus stop on Nickerson street, what did I see lying there in a heap? My sweater! The bus stops on the way to and from work are not directly across the street from each other, so I didn't see it sitting there in the morning. I'd dropped it just as I'd gotten onto the bus, and it remained there all night. It was raining, so it was sopping wet. It was covered in sand and dirt. Who knows what other indignities it suffered as it spent 24 hours alone on the ground at a bus stop on a busy street. It could've been peed on by dogs and drunks for all I knew.

I didn't care. I picked it up, brushed as much dirt off of it as I could, and brought it home where it belongs. I threw it into the tub and gave it a good soak to get the sand out. I'll run it with the next load of laundry and it'll be good as new. I promised it I'd never leave it behind again.

I gots mah sweater back!!!!! Yay!!!
