Who Says I'm Not Spontaneous?
Sep. 7th, 2006 03:02 pmSo, I'm off this week. The bosslady I've been working most closely with is on vacation, so she said "you want the week off?" There wouldn't be anything else for me to do at the office while she was gone, so why not? I told the temp service I'd be available for any short little jobs that might come up, but the odds of that happening would be pretty slim. Luke is done with photography classes for now, and hasn't started working yet. Tuesday afternoon, faced with the prospect of sitting at our computers all week, he said "we should get out of town, stay overnight somewhere. A spur-of-the-moment mini-vacation." This was about 2:00. By 4:00, we were racing up I-5 on our way to a town called Port Angeles. It sounded nice, and Luke said he always wanted to see what it was like up there. He looked up a hotel that had a view of the water and the Olympic mountains and got us a room. After a lovely drive, and what I believe was my first-ever ferry ride, we arrived about 7:00. We were offered an upgrade to a suite, so we took it. The view was beautiful. At dusk, we walked down to the town center and found a restaurant. Nothing spectacular, but nice. Then back to the room for CABLE TV!! Wheee!! We drove 70 miles to watch The Daily Show! It might have been a repeat, but we didn't care, we don't have cable at home. In the morning, we checked out and found someplace for breakfast. Then we walked around the town checking out antique shops and such. There was fog offshore, and big ships partially engulfed by it. Very cool. I'd love to come back for a whole weekend, and spend a little more time up in that area. It's really pretty.
We drove back a different way, taking the ferry that lets off downtown, arriving home a little more than 24 hours after we had left. Then it was off to
dirtylibrarian's house for dinner with her and
lara7. Dinner was delish, and the company was wonderful! Luke and I hope to be able to return the favor someday.
