Kinda toasty around these parts. We don't get the insufferable humidity like in the midwest, but it's warm enough to be unpleasant. I think they said it was 97 degrees yesterday. Last night was another Clarion West party, and I would like to have gone, but when Luke came home from school, neither of us had the ability to face getting cleaned up and going out again. So we took a late walk around midnight. People were out watering their yards, and several friendly cats flopped on the cool sidewalk in front of us for skritches.

Heat is relative. Here in Seattle, I know some people who really love hot weather, the hotter the better, it cannot possibly get too hot for them. Me, I don't like it if it's much over 75-80 degrees. It's just a matter of what your body likes, and what you're used to. I spent enough time in the Sumatran-caliber humidity of the midwest to really appreciate the weather here. Yes, it's rather uncomfortable right now, this house is on a hill, with dark siding and no shade. We have four fans going full blast upstairs, and it doesn't help much during the day. But it could be so much worse, and it cools off quite a bit at night. So I'll complain about other things...

I think the most unpleasant thing about life in this house right now (besides the housemate stuff) is the fact that there aren't screens on most of the windows. It's like fucking Wild Kingdom in here! Moths of every size and color pattern, flies, mosquitos, gnats, ladybugs, spiders, and the occasional bee make their way inside. I don't enjoy sharing my living space with a marauding bunch of many-legged vermin. We keep the lights off upstairs as much as possible to minimize the attraction. Still, we wake up with mosquito bites, and the feeling we've been trodden upon by tiny legs. Ick.
