Some Photos...
Apr. 2nd, 2006 08:53 pmWe're too old for that "bride and groom can't see each other before the wedding" silliness. We woke up yesterday feeling stressed and sniffly, but looking forward to being married. After I got back from picking up the cakes, Luke set up the tripod in our bedroom, and took a few photos of us getting ready. Then we headed down the street to Kate & Glenn's, and paced back and forth, trying to decide if we should get married inside or outside. At first we said outside, as the sun was peeking out and it was warming up, but then clouds rolled in and looked like they were going to take over. It cooled off quite a bit. Suddenly, the sun came out again, this time to stay, and right around 4:30, under a nearly clear blue sky, I came down the back steps to a chorus of "here comes the bride" tooted on at least 30 kazoos. It was impossible not to laugh, so I didn't try. In seconds, it seemed, the ceremony was over, just like that, and we were married. Time for joy, hugs, relief, champagne, and milling around. Then we piled into many cars, and made for Doong Kong Lau for dinner. Luke and I rode with
dirtylibrarian and
fringefaan, and Luke took the picture of our rings in the back seat of the car. Dinner was fun, I ate very little though, knowing my insides might complain if I overdid it. And besides, there was much cake to be had back at the house! We all return home, and Vanguard gets under way. You know how it is at some wedding receptions, the family sits in one corner, the co-workers in another, and the friends in yet another, and no-one mingles much. That didn't happen at this party, and it was wonderful. My folks, Joan & Rem, and Luke's sister Nora and husband Tony, all got along swimmingly, and talked to pretty much everybody! Luke's cold came back with a vengeance mid-way through the party, and he faded early. I lasted till everyone left, then Jane and I put the leftover cake in the fridge, and I went upstairs to bed. The wedding day was over. *Whew!*
And now, the photos:

(I'm not actually taller than Luke, but I look it due to the shoes I was wearing. They didn't seem very high when I tried them on...)
Many, many thanks to
kate_schaefer and Glenn, for hosting the ceremony in their lovely yard, and much stress reduction.
Thanks also to
fringefaan, for admirable best man action, and
intelligentrix and
slave_driver, who came all the way from New Orleans to spend our day with us.
Thanks to
dirtylibrarian, for shuttle service to and from dinner!
And thanks to all who offered congratulations here on LJ! Too tired for individual responses...
Will get to work on real-live honest-to-goodness paper thank you notes soon!
