The Week In Review...
Aug. 6th, 2005 06:33 pmLast weekend, it was hot, and I didn't get much done. But I did get some good news.
whumpdotcom called and offered to fly out and take Ariel back to California with him if I can't find her a home here in Madison. It may not be the best possible thing for her, as an airplane ride would be very traumatic, and she would have to live with another cat when she gets there, but it is a very kind and generous thing for
whumpdotcom and
cynthia1960 to offer. It makes me feel a bit better about the situation.
Monday. It's always interesting when something appears in the sky that you weren't expecting. When I returned from lunch, I saw a blimp flying fairly low in the sky above my office. It was small, as blimps go, white with red letters that said "Sanyo". Can blimps be cute? I couldn't hear anything, normally blimp engines have a unique and unmistakable sound. It turned to the south and floundered a bit, it seemed to be having trouble staying pointed in one direction. It circled over our parking lot and pitched alarmingly downward, actually looking like it was going to try to land. Then it went nose-up towards the West Towne mall, struggling to gain altitude. It went over the hill and was gone. Not something you see every day...
Monday was also my final Word class at MATC. In the intermediate class we did tables, mail merge, set macros (scary!) and tried our hand at wrapping text around clip art. Taking these three classes was an excellent use for $140 bucks. The instructor was great, and each three-hour class just flew by. Who can say if I'll remember anything I learned when I need to know it for a job, but I nevertheless feel a huge sense of accomplishment for having completed three classes this summer. I'd never taken a class like that in my life before. It got me out of the house, and forced me to delve into things I normally avoid, like finding out things a computer can do besides e-mail and LJ...
Tuesday. Went to a farm stand after work and picked out four perfect looking ears of sweet corn. Ate them for dinner. They were fabulous. Mmmmm.....
Wednesday. It was too hot to do anything.
Thursday. The weather cools a bit. I started packing up some books and videos.
Friday. What'd I do? Oh yeah, made a stir-fry, talked to
holyoutlaw, then fell asleep on the couch.
Saturday. Why- that's today! Using my newly gained skills in Word, I finally made a flyer to post around town about the cat. I posted a notice on
madisonwi about getting rid of my credenza. I hope someone wants it, because if I get rid of it, I'll have more room to stack boxes in the living room as I get ready to move. After posting that, I packed up six boxes of books, and I may pack more later on. Unless the couch grabs me.
