Friday night...
Apr. 15th, 2005 07:37 pmI should be working on e-mail about the Tiptree bakesale, but I'm futzing around here instead. I've got all weekend to get stuff done. And I WILL get stuff done...
I like the kind of memes where you learn interesting facts about people. I'm going to do the one about the bands you've seen live. When a meme says "copy this to your journal, bold this, highlight that", I don't know how to do that. So, I'm just going to list all the bands I can remember seeing live. Quite the hodge-podge, I must say...
Starting with- Crosby, Stills and Nash. It was 1982, high school, I don't remember if Neil Young was with them or not...
Dave Edmunds, 1994, at what was once the Stone Hearth.
The Mermen, four times out west, twice in Madison.
Dick Dale, once out west, once in Madison.
Lush, at the Edge in Palo Alto.
Wierd Al Yankovic, what a hoot!
Los Straitjackets, four times, I think. Make sure you see them when they tour with the Pontani Sisters!
Camper Van Beethoven
Kaila Flexer and 3rd Ear
Turtle Island String Quartet
In the category of worldbeat, I've seen...
Angelique Kidjo
Rachid Taha, absolutely mind blowing show.
Hassan Hakmoun
Oliver Mtukudzi, twice. I got to meet him.
Varttina
Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra
Memorable opening bands...
Chicken Coupe DeVille
The Hi-Risers
Ready Made, who later changed their name to Skip Holiday and put out a CD.
The Sugarjets
Echo-Static
Intelligent Dennis
The Cool People
Driftless Pony Club
Fiercely Me
Local Favorites...
Spooner,
spikeiowa, remember? You took me to Headliners.
Honor Among Thieves
Reptile Palace Orchestra
Tony Castaneda Latin Jazz Quartet, who are a sextet these days.
Dave Hecht and Primitive Culture
Smokin' With Superman
Yid Vicious
And of course- The German Art Students, who I've seen more times than I can count!
OK, back to work...
