The last few days...
Sep. 18th, 2004 01:48 pmSpidee has left the building. I haven't seen her for several days. Her hole is empty, her web a shambles. She's either laid her eggs and died, or she was picked off by a bird at some point. I know it sounds crazy, but I'll miss her menacing presence outside my window. I sure hope the photos I took turn out...
Thursday, I went bowling with my pal B. We picked a steak place near the alley for a pre-bowling dinner. It was a chain restaurant, and it was rather pricy, but what the heck! I seldom eat red meat, not because I don't like it just fine, but because the salmon or chicken options of places like that are usually more appealing to me, not to mention cheaper. But I was in the mood for something with hooves, and I wasn't disappointed with my selection. I had enough left over for lunch the next day. Dessert was a huge piece of cheesecake, B. had to help me eat it. Yum.
We arrived at the bowling alley about 8:30, league play was still going on. We could get a lane at 9:00. We went downstairs to where they had pool tables and dartboards. I'd been wanting to try darts, here was my chance! These were weird looking darts, they were heavy, but the pointy bit was plastic, not metal. B put a few quarters in the machine, and programmed a basic practice game into it. I sucked. Many of my darts bounced off the board and hit the floor. Second game, I got a couple of lucky hits and actually won! Third game, I won again, not by much, but still! It was totally random and lucky, all I was trying to do was have them hit the board and not bounce off, I wasn't aiming for anything specific, although it did help to picture bosslady's head up there...
After three games we went upstairs, the league bowlers were clearing out, and they gave us a lane. We'd hardly gotten started, and I started sneezing like crazy. No idea why it started so suddenly, I'm not chemically sensitive, and cigarette smoke doesn't bother me much at all. It could just be that my hayfever chose that particular moment to kick in with a vengence. Problem was, I didn't have much kleenex with me, so I kept running to the ladies room to blow my nose! It didn't keep me from bowling well the first game, however, and I got a 157. Also, right after we started, they turned off the regular lights, turned on the colorful disco lights, the swirly mirror balls, and the UV lights that make everything glow. Unbeknownst to us, Thursday was COSMIC FAMILY BOWLING NIGHT! Woo-Hoo! The wood floor of all the lanes had been treated with something to make them react to that light, so everything glowed. Even some of the house bowling balls! I had on a black t-shirt with white writing, so it looked kind of neat. Now, bowling under funny lights, with disco tunes blasting at full disco volume, is pretty darn silly- but definately fun! The second game, I only got a 117, all that sneezing was starting to wear me down.
The next day, I was still really sneezy, I went through an entire box of kleenex at work. It didn't feel like a cold, just allergies. When the weather changes from hot, humid and summery, to cool, dry and fall-like, my sinuses go nuts. My plan for Friday night was a hot bath, a handful of over-the-counter-allergy pills, and a nice long chat with
holyoutlaw before the pills put me to sleep. I climbed into the tub at 10:30, and stayed there all night, occasionaly waking to warm up the water. The cat gets rather upset when I'm in the tub, she'll jump up on the edge of the tub and pace, trying to convince me that being wet is a bad thing. Silly cat. When I finally got out of the tub at 8:30 this morning, I was wrinkled as a prune, but my sinuses felt perfectly normal! Go figure...
