Tonight's dinner experiment...
Aug. 9th, 2004 10:49 pmIt was edible, though not fabulous. I stopped at the store after work because I needed a few items, and I found myself buying "fresh things." Things I'd have to chop up and use right away, lest they go BAD. I was in the mood to cook. Now I'm sure there are vegetables you can buy and keep around for a while if you store them properly, but these are "basic laws of food" that I never learned. I bought some chicken. A red pepper. Mushrooms. Some garlic. A jar of Patak's Original tomato and onion simmer sauce. When I got home I started chopping and put some rice in the rice cooker. Started the chicken, added the veggies, poured on the sauce, let it cook for a bit. The end result was a bit too spicy. I thought I'd bought and tried this particular flavor of Indian simmer sauce before, but I guess I was wrong. I consider the meal a general success overall, in that the rice got done at the exact same time as the other stuff, my slicing and sauteeing skills seem to be improving, and "look Ma- no burns or gaping wounds!" Yay....
I'm sitting on the living room floor after dinner, and the cat steps across my lap. Now, my cat is the softest cat who ever walked this earth (ask
whumpdotcom, ask anyone who has ever laid a hand on that cat!), but I notice that her coat has gotten a bit clumpy and she needs a good combing. I say combing, because I've never found a good brush that'll pull out the undercoat. The only thing that works is good old-fashioned plastic comb for people hair. She doesn't much enjoy being combed, but I'm as gentle as I can be, and once I get going, I've combed out enough of her undercoat to make a whole new cat! I'm completely covered in soft, downy, super-fine cat fur, and clouds of it float around the living room. I get out this new brush thingy I bought at Bed, Bath and Beyond the other day. It's made of soft rubber, and it's supposed to be good for picking up pet hair from fabric. Since the cat is still stretched out in front of me, I run it across her back, just to see if it'll pick up her fur. And whaddayaknow- it works great- and even more amazing- she actually likes it! She's lying there on her side, letting me run this brush rather firmly across her, something she's never ever done before. In moments, I've brushed the equivalent of a yet another cat out of her. She's Sooooooooooooo super-soft now.....
