"Um, 'scuze me miss, you got any pollen?"
May. 4th, 2004 09:19 pmImagine my surprise when I open the shades this morning to find an absolutely gigantic bumblebee staring me in the face. Stuck between the screen and the sliding glass door, I have no idea how it could have gotten there. I don't see any holes in the screen, or gaps it could have crawled through. There doesn't seem to be any way it could get all the way inside my apartment, so I decide to leave it, and head off to work. When I return home at lunchtime, it's still there. Right at eye level, antennae twitching, looking at me like "I don't know how I got here, either." I carefully slide open the door, open the screen about a foot, and shut the door again. It now has an exit, if it's smart enough to walk over there and find it. I tap on the glass, "go on bee, take a hike." It starts walking, in the wrong direction. "You're not a very smart bee, are you?" By now, my lunch hour is up, and I leave the bee to it's intelligence test. When I got home from work, it was gone.
The project for this evening, instead of the Wiscon stuff I desperately need to get started on, was going through my closet. I had to find something appropriate to wear to Dr. D's memorial tomorrow. It wasn't an easy search, I don't have a lot of dressy clothes. I have several fun party dresses that are great for conventions, and two that would be good for a summer wedding (if I ever get invited to one), but not much that says "somber and serious." I cobble together a pair of black dress pants that I'd forgotten I had, and a grey top I bought for job interviewing. Three years and several larger sizes ago. If I tuck it in, and cinch the belt tight, it doesn't look too bad. It's going to have to do. While I was deep in my closet, I realized it was time to box up the sweaters and get out the summer stuff- with a major Goodwill purge to boot! When it was done, I had three trash bags full of clothes to give away. That rocks, but now I need some new clothes for summer. I got rid of a lot of items that I don't like anymore, and I know I'm not going to wear again. Leaving me without much of a summer wardrobe, but I'll have to work on that later, as finances dictate.
