Such is my life on this day. I sit at the computer, looking out the window, watching the icicles on my neighbor's balcony (the cute neighbor, sigh..) melt in earnest. Yesterday morning, it was pouring rain- free carwash- YAY! By dinnertime, everything froze and we had two inches of snow. Now, all things are melty again. I went on a brief outing when I discovered I was out of Pepsi. I can't live without Pepsi, so I put a baseball cap over my unwashed hair, and walked across the street to Knoche's, my little neighborhood market. The small independent grocer is a dying breed, so I like to give them my business whenever I can. I'm sure I've said that before...

I know there's probably plenty more winter to be had around here, but with everything so melty today, it feels like spring is just around the corner. The other day, I was telling a co-worker, a recent transplant from the deep south, that it can snow here in May. She was dubious. I have a very specific memory of a late snowfall. It was exam week in high school. I wondered if I could prove it. I tried the Farmer's Almanac website. I discovered they can tell you the high and low temperatures on any given day, like- ever! I tried the entire month of May and the first week of June, 1983, the year I thought we had a late snow. Nope, too warm, it must have been another year. I'll go back another time and find it eventually.

The phone rings, it's my dad, calling from his cell phone. He and mom are in the neighborhood, can they stop over? They got back a few days ago from their trip out west, and I haven't seen them in weeks. They drove to Las Vegas, San Diego, and visited several sets of relatives in Arizona. Me and my place are both a mess, but they say they don't mind! A brief but pleasant visit was had. I envy my folks, sometimes. They are both retired, and in great shape. They can just jump in the car and go where they want, when they want. I wish I could do that, I love road trips! You see so much more of the country by car.

I have no plans for the rest of the day. My neighbor's icicles have now completely melted away.
With that, I leave you...
