Synchronized Skating...
Feb. 1st, 2004 11:46 amSaturday,
replyhazy and I drove to a hard-to-find ice arena in Geneva, Illinois. We wanted to see
renniekins and her team from Detroit perform in the Midwestern Synchronized Team Skating Championships. Unfortunately, the directions we got for the arena were a little off, so we were late in finding it, and missed seeing
renniekins and her team by mere moments! They won, though! Yippee!!
Synchronized skating is a sport you never see on TV, which is too bad, because it's a lot of fun to watch. Instead of one skater on the ice, or a couple, there is a team of 20 identically dressed skaters, performing very complicated looking routines. I'm at a loss to describe it well.
We ended up going to lunch with
renniekins and her family, which was lovely, then we went back to the arena to watch more skating. We didn't stay that long, we got there around 11am and left at 4, but it was a fun and interesting day observing a sport neither of us had seen before.
