Halloween on State Street...
Nov. 1st, 2003 02:50 pmWE HAD A BLAST!!!
rdkeir, his sweetie Lucy and I met at their house, grabbed some dinner at a Chinese buffet, then headed uptown about 8:30. We parked in the ramp at the opposite end of the Square, and set off to enjoy the spectacle. There were a lot of really funny, clever, creative and elaborate costumes. Along with plenty of crude and gross ones, too. We walked up and down State Street a couple times, then just staked out a street corner and watched the throng of people go by. Thousands upon thousands of people.
rdkeir took lots of pictures.
I was dressed as Marie Curie. I had on a simple black skirt, black velvet jacket, white shirt with a high collar, black scarf around my neck, pinned with a cameo brooch, my hair piled under a old-fashioned black hat, and old-lady shoes. On that I pinned dozens of those eerie green snap-and-glow lights. I looked great in the dark! I made myself a nametag that said: "Hello- My name is Madame Curie, ask me about my Nobel Prize!" Lot's of people "got" it.
rdkeir was wearing an elaborately embroidered 17th century sort of outfit in an intense shade of blue, with a ruffly white collar and sleeves. Lucy was sensibly dressed in a WARM coat, and a silly mask! It was chilly when the wind picked up, and I was glad I wore gloves. As it got later, the crowd got drunker, and more tightly packed. There was some pushing and shoving, but nothing as bad as last year, as far as we could see. We worked our way back up towards the Square, and returned to the car just after midnight. The cashier at the parking ramp admired our outfits, and asked how things were going on State Street. I said it had been great, but now looked like a pretty good time for us sober folks to head home!
Thank you,
rdkeir and Lucy, for coming with me! I had such a great time! Thanks for dinner, too! Total cost of my evening was $1 dollar for the parking. Unless you count how much I spent on the clothes and the glow-lights...
In other news, I just got off the phone with another guy I met at the singles party. This guy doesn't have any kids. And he can dance. We're meeting for coffee Sunday morning. I don't actually drink coffee, but I'm more than willing to have hot chocolate and pastries..
