A good LJ day...
Jan. 28th, 2003 10:52 pmKind words after my rant yesterday, and two new friends on my list. There was much rejoicing....
My computer gave me a scare this morning. I leave it on almost all the time. I probably shouldn't, it tends to overheat and get slow.
Slower, I should say. Even when it's working fine, it's INCREDIBLY, UNBELIEVABLY, MIND-BOGGLINGLY, PAINFULLY, "I'VE SEEN GLACIERS MOVE FASTER THAN THIS" SLLOOOOWWWWWW! But this morning it did something it's never done before. I came downstairs, woke up the screen, fired up the modem and went to take my shower. I check messages before I walk out the door. Usually. The mouse totally stopped working, everything froze, the cursor wouldn't move. Crap. I've mentioned that I know absolutely nothing about computers, right? I can't afford any major new components. What if it's dead? I sure as hell can't replace it! I worried about it all morning, then came home for lunch. Still frozen. I tried to think of who I should call. Then I remembered something that always worked for copy machines- the old "turn it off, then back on again" trick. Woo-Hoo! It worked! I know it's not good for the machine, but what else could I do? It seems fine now...
I'm talking to a new online guy. Seems very nice, but who knows, way to early to tell. He writes very clearly, a BIG plus as far as I'm concerned! Whatever happens, I'm just enjoying the conversation.
