Went ice skating today with [livejournal.com profile] replyhazy, and her sweetie B. A fine time. Tenny park is a Madison favorite, and today, the ice was great. We went early, before it got crowded. B. did very well for not having skated for many, many years. No major falls were had by anybody! Tenny park holds so many good memories for me, I've skated there since I was a kid. When I was around 11, my friend Tina and I would hop on the bus and spend the entire day there. We'd skate till after dark, then call one of our parents to come pick us up, because we were too exhausted and frostbitten to walk to the bus stop! One time back in the 70's, my whole family went skating at midnight on New Year's Eve. All the lights were off, but lots of people were there, skating by moonlight in the freezing cold. I once saw a spectacular shooting star in the sky over the bridge by the warming house. But times change, I am 37, not 11, skating is much harder (and more dangerous!) when you're not as limber as your pre-teen self! Today the city doesn't have the budget to clear and prep as much of the lagoon for skating as they did years ago, which is sad. This afternoon, we saw a dad skating with his kids, yakking away on a cell phone. Ah, modern life...
Oh well, we still had a wonderful time, it felt great to be there,
and I have my memories of how it used to be.
After skating, we went to lunch and then had- ICE CREAM! I was so full, I didn't need any dinner! Just had some more ICE CREAM about half an hour ago. It's all [livejournal.com profile] holyoutlaw's fault!
Spent the rest of the day at home. Got flamed by another online dating guy (not as bad this time, fewer swear words..), so I went and changed my profiles on all the dating sites I belong to. I added how important written conversations are to me, and I won't put up with the childish writing that abounds online. Maybe fewer
guys will want to talk to me now, but the ones who do, might be worth my while. I already got a new message tonight from a guy in Florida who sounded really nice. Filled with proper punctuation and grammar, I was thrilled to read it! Who knows what can happen...
