I don't care who reads me at this point. I have little to hide. Anything I don't want the world at large to know I won't write about- Duh! (robbed a bank and axe murdered twelve people today, let me tell you how I felt about that... P.S. please don't mention it to the police...) Later, maybe I'll have certain people who I can say more private things to. Some folks do that, I'm told. Mostly, I'll write about the everyday junk that happens, and comment on other people's everyday stuff. Nothing philisophical will ever come out of me, I can tell you that right up front!
So, how do I get friends? I'm really nice, honest! Do I pick the people I know and just list them? Should I ask first? How do I get people to list me as a friend? What about the people who I know are on livejournal, and I want to talk to and hear from, but I don't know what name they use? So I guess what I'm saying is- "if you know me (or want to know me), tell me where you are and what you call yourself here!" Luke did- thanks Luke! I wouldn't have known otherwise!

Julie, you know I'll still love you even if you don't have any other friends, which I'm sure won't be true for very long.

I asked some of these same questions in my journal; you can read what people told me here (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=bibliofile&itemid=2043).

You can add anyone to your Friends list without asking them. (Remember, you watched me do it after we found whump?) Your Friends list does two things:

- Tells LiveJournal to let the other person read the more private (Friends-only) posts in your journal

- Lets you track whenever people add new stuff to their journals (by looking at your Friends page)

As for finding people, asking is good. Makes it so much easier to get answers, doesn't it? (And if you get some good answers, please let me know!)

Here are some journals by people you're likely to know: [livejournal.com profile] brisingamen, [livejournal.com profile] redbird, [livejournal.com profile] sneerpout, [livejournal.com profile] green_amber. If it turns out you don't know them, I 'pologize. Different people have different privacy constraints, so I'll leave you to figuring out who's who. Hah!

Basically, I think of my "friends" list as people I'm interested in reading. I thought I'd never do private (only I can se4e it) posts, and I have. And I thought I'd never do friends-only posts, and I have. And I thought I'd never do filtered (ie, only a specified subset of your friends list can see it) posts.

Welcome from a fellow Liz Phair fan, Onion reader, and LJ newbie. I found out about you through [personal profile] bibliofile

To answer one of your questions; so far, several people have added you to their Friend list. The way *you* define your own Friend list is to go to any page with the left-hand menu bar, and click "Your Friends" under the "Your Settings" category (you have to be logged in to do this).

A good way for a new person to get seen is to see if there are any communities set up for your interests (just click on any of the interests you've defined on your userinfo page and look at the top of the results page - I notice there are *two* Liz Phair communities).

This is a fun place to explore. Hope you like it as much as I do!

I've added you. I don't think we've met but I've heard [livejournal.com profile] bibliofile talk about you and I was in TurboApa once or twice. (Ask Karen who I am if you need to - but I don't use my real name on LJ, please note.)

In explore mode...

Thanks for the welcome! I'm puttering about in here, finding folks I know (with Karen's help!), and adding them. We had fun looking at interest groups, and trying to think of things that few people are into. I know I'm going to get hooked on LJ!
I plan to unpack my CD's today, so I'll be able to think of lots more artists that I like, and put them in my box of interests. I don't listen to Liz Phair a lot these days, but she's definitely a long-term favorite of mine.

I think we've met...

If you've been to Wiscon, then we must have met at some point.
I don't think you were in the APA at the same time I was. Karen told me who you are, and showed me a fanzine with photos. You do look familiar...
Thanks for adding me!

Well, one of the best ways is to friend/subscribe to those you know. That's why you're now on my friends list. ::giggle::
